Congratulations. You are living in a community recognized by the state and federal government as being historically and architecturally significant. \u00a0They have placed the Hillcrest Neighborhood on the National Register of Historic Places. \u00a0Hillcrest is an exemplary example of a collection of early twentieth century architecture and one of the city\u2019s first suburban developments. \u00a0Its period of significance is from 1890-1940.<\/span><\/h4>\n

We hope you will take pride in living in the historic district and understand why is important to preserve. \u00a0When buildings are destroyed we loose our distinct identity and sense of place, We lose the history in our community, rehabilitation is green building: \u00a0the greenest building is one that already exists, historic preservation makes a great city\u2014when science and art-based career individuals (aka \u201cthe creative class\u201d) they look for communities with walk-ability and distinct architecture\u2014these are characteristics publications like Kiplinger\u2019s looks for when determining which city\u2019s make their America\u2019s Greatest Cities List.<\/span><\/h4>\n
